Developer Abandonment
A significant problem within the cryptocurrency space is developer abandonment, colloquially referred to as "rug pulls." A rug pull occurs when developers of a project—whether intentionally or through sheer neglect—abandon their project, leaving the community and investors with no direction or support. In many cases, this happens after developers have cashed out their holdings, leaving token holders with coins that are essentially worthless.
Even when developer abandonment isn’t malicious, the result is the same: communities are left leaderless and unable to execute meaningful changes. Projects that could have continued to grow and evolve instead wither, as there is no one to maintain critical infrastructure, adapt to changing market conditions, or oversee day-to-day community management. Without a developer or leadership team, communities become stagnant, leading to frustration, disengagement, and ultimately the collapse of the project.
